Trained initially in drawing and later as a landscape engineer, photography quickly became a natural extension of the various landscape sketches Nicolas RIFFAUD was creating. With an approach focused on the subtle variations of light that reveal territories, he began exhibiting his work in 2008, particularly exploring rural areas at night and port zones.
Since then, he has continued to develop this approach, while requests have multiplied across a wide range of fields, such as:
- associations
- events
- ready-to-wear fashion
- portraits
- weddings
- architecture and landscaping
- dance
- artworks, etc.
Through this variety of experiences, Nicolas RIFFAUD has maintained his focus on light and framing composition to reveal each situation across very different contexts.
As a member of an environmental NGO since 2014, he has documented numerous events in France and abroad, adapting to a wide variety of situations and subjects. This allowed him to approach photography for specific events, such as institutional meetings, dance performances, or telling the story of a unique individual across rural and urban settings.
Subsequently, he completed numerous fashion photography sessions, which introduced new professional requirements, particularly in portrait work. Following this experience, he began photographing weddings and engagements, while continuing to document association events, concerts, and artists’ works. Finally, drawing on his training and professional experience as a landscape engineer, he approaches architecture and landscape photography with a critical and demanding eye.
If there is a common thread connecting these diverse categories, it is certainly the work with light, which lies at the heart of his approach. This method allows him to improvise according to location, weather, or situation, focusing on the subject and capturing the moment to bring out its character, intensity, and emotion.
